The Office of Sustainability at the University of Maryland
is hiring a Graduate Assistant for Campus Sustainability

Employment Period: July 2008—June 2009

Job Description: The Office of Sustainability supports and advances environmental performance, economic prosperity, and social equality through a variety of initiatives. The staff facilitate the development and implementation of sustainable policies, practices, and curricula for the campus community by educating the campus community about sustainability, fostering collaboration between units of the university, serving a lead role in responding to external organizations, coordinating efforts to meet the goals of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, measuring and reporting on campus sustainability efforts, and providing outreach to individuals and organizations both internal and external to the University. The Office is seeking a graduate assistant (GA) 20 hours/week to research technologies and strategies related to sustainability, to lead the coordination of certain events, and to generally support the work of Office of Sustainability staff. The GA will support the Climate Action Plan Work Group by researching carbon reduction strategies and other information needed by the Work Group, coordinating the Sustainability Speaker Series (a lecture series that educates the campus community about diverse sustainability topics), participating in the development of the next Campus Sustainability Report, and other duties as assigned. Ideal candidates for this position have a solid understanding of sustainability; excellent organizational, communication and research skills; and are excited about fostering a more sustainable campus and community. Web design/development skills are a plus. Experience working on campus sustainability issues is also a plus.
