Admission

For admission into MEPP, students must hold a B.S. in engineering or a closely aligned technical degree and they must meet the admissions criteria for both the Maryland School of Public Policy and the A. James Clark School of Engineering. The evaluation criteria include overall academic record, GRE scores, strength of letters of recommendation and compatibility of student goals with those of the program. When applying to this program, students should indicate that their application is to MEPP.

International students must also show proof of financial resources sufficient to cover the cost of their education and living expenses for the duration of their program of study, as required by U.S. immigration and visa regulations.

Admission Deadlines

Spring Admission

  • International Applicant Final: June 1
  • US and Permanent Residents: October 31

Fall Admission

  • Preferred (for best consideration for financial aid): January 1
  • International Applicants: February 1
  • US and Permanent Residents: May 15

Application Materials

Applicants to MEPP should visit Testudo Admissions to initiate their on-line application.

Applicants to this program must submit the following items to each of these locations:

University of Maryland + Original transcripts
GEMS + Official GRE scores
2123 Lee Building, College Park, MD 20743 + Statement of purpose
(if not in the on-line application)
  + Proof of financial support (for international students only)

 

Decision Dates

In most cases, students who have applied to this program for fall admission by the preferred deadline should receive notification of their admission or rejection by March. Those who applied for spring admission by October 31, should be notified of their admission or rejection by December.

Status Check

Students who have submitted all application materials may:

  • Check the status of the package sent to "GEMS"
  • Check the status of the package sent to the MEPP Program

Deferment of Admission

U.S. and permanent residents may defer admission for up to one year after they have received an admission letter from the Graduate School of the University of Maryland.   A request for deferment must be submitted in writing to Graduate Enrollment Management Services (GEMS).   International students may defer their application, but not their admission.

Application Withdrawal Dates

Students who do not register for the semester for which they were admitted, and who have not applied for and been granted a deferment, must reapply to enter the program.  

All incomplete applications, including applications from international students, that have not included proof of sufficient personal funds by May 31 (for fall admission) and November 1 (for spring admission) will become inactive and will be withdrawn from the system.
